Ode to a Politician

02Apr10

Oh, you lied on Monday,
And you lied on Tuesday,
And you lied on Wednesday too!

Then you lied on Thursday,
And you lied on Friday,
And you lied all Saturday through!

And then came Sunday,
And that was one day,
When you surely wouldn’t lie?

But you lied on Sunday!
And then came Monday,
And you started all over again!

  1. This little ditty was somewhat inspired by the Obama administration’s new policy of allowing off-shore oil drilling. But in reality it is to a much larger extent a reflection of my opinion of all politicians everywhere. That is simply the way they are…

As for the words, this is actually based on a song I learned long, long, long ago when I was a Boy Scout. We’d go camping, and it would start raining, and we’d sit huddled in our tent, and to pass the time in the most masochistic way possible we’d sing, over, and over, and over again:

    Oh, it rained on Monday,
    And it rained on Tuesday,
And it rained on Wednesday too!

    Then it rained on Thursday,
    And it rained on Friday,
And it rained all Saturday through!

    And then came Sunday,
    And that was one day,
    When it surely wouldn’t rain?

    But it rained on Sunday!
    And then came Monday,
And it started all over again!

I have no idea of where this song came from or whether it is well-known or what. But a Google search didn’t turn up any hits, so I’m afraid I can’t provide the music.
